Currently residing in a 2 bedroom apartment downtown, our newest Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo (HFHWB) partner family is that of Beata Sharangabu–a single mother with two little boys; Moses (4 years), and Pius (1 years).
Beata has been a Fort McMurray resident for almost 3 years, and is currently employed as a support worker with the Salvation Army. Her little family has enjoyed the community so far and are planning long term residency. She is looking forward to a new home for her family in the near future.
“Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo has impacted my life by giving me new hopes and great aspirations that I am closing in to become a home owner,” says Beata. “This is a dream come true. My sincere appreciations to HFHWB Committee cannot be fully expressed in words. I am encouraged and motivated to give back to the community by helping other people to establish themselves and reach their goals in my little capacity.”
Having two teenage girls who are currently residing in Rwanda, Beata has an application process for her 18 and 14 year old daughters in progress, and she hopes that they will be here to join her soon. She aspires to increase her income when her teenage daughters arrive by getting a better paying job on site and reducing childcare costs.
Beata has also adopted her sister’s 12 year old daughter, and will begin the process to have her move into her home as well. It will be quite the busy home for this hard-working single mother, however they are more than eager to accomplish the sweat equity contribution towards their new home. In fact, Beata has already put in a great amount of hours by volunteering every weekend in cleaning and arranging the place of worship along with her older son. “My volunteer work so far was based on serving in the Ethiopian Orthodox community church since they’re not fully established as well. I am delighted to be a community volunteer, and will continue to give a hand everywhere I can reach.”
We are so excited to be working with this amazing woman to help her reach her goal of being a home owner, and look forward to seeing her large family settled.
