Christmas came early for Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo (HFHWB) as their tool wish list was fulfilled by a generous donation from the Fort McMurray Lions Club.
In the fall of 2016, the Lions Club contacted HFHWB regarding the possibility of funding to purchase tools for the local social profit organization. Habitat for Humanity put together a “wish” list of tools that would be useful on their build sites. Thanks to discounted pricing from Home Hardware, the Lions Club was able to purchase all of the tools on the list, plus a few extras. Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity and the Lions Club were on-hand to load up the donation on December 23rd.
“The timing couldn’t be better,” noted HFHWB Executive Director, Crystal Lewis-Wilton. “One of the tools donated is a drywall lift and we are scheduled to start hanging drywall the last weekend of the year- this will make life so much easier for our volunteers!”
Habitat for Humanity builds houses which are sold to low-income families through no-interest, no-down payment mortgages. In response to the Horse River Wildfire, the local affiliate will also be assisting uninsured and underinsured homeowners repair and rebuild homes that were damaged or lost in the wildfire. The tool donation is a very fitting donation indeed, as the organization ramps up.
