Tickets for the Builders Ball Dinner & Playhouse Auction are On Sale Now

Tickets to the Builders’ Ball Dinner & Auction are now on sale!

HFH Wood Buffalo will be wrapping up the Playhouse Build-Off event with the Builders’ Ball Dinner & Auction, presented by Syncrude, on June 10th at Nexen Field House. Enjoy a great meal, bid on your favorite playhouse, watch as the winners of the competition are announced and dance the rest of the night away.

Playhouses will be up for grabs through a raffle (1 playhouse) and live auction (the remaining playhouses). The winner of the “Best Playhouse in Wood Buffalo 2017” will be announced at the June 10th event. Prizes will also be awarded for People’s Choice, Kids’ Choice and Best Team Spirit categories.

Application Deadline Extended for Teams Looking to Participate in the Playhouse Build-Off on June 3rd

There are still a couple of slots available for teams looking to participate in the first annual HFH Wood Buffalo Playhouse Build-Off. Gather up 5-7 of your friends or colleagues for a day of fun & creativity as you put together your playhouse masterpiece!

“There is still time to enter a team in the Playhouse Build-Off. Teams have just missed the deadline for having their team name on Build-Off Day related materials,” says Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Crystal Lewis-Wilton. “We have playhouse build plans available for teams that aren’t sure where to start. Tools and build materials are provided as well. Teams just need to show up ready to put their creations together and add their own creative flair,” she adds.

Teams have a chance to do some prep work on the evening of June 1st, be it pre-cutting materials or pre-fabbing the walls for their playhouses. The competition begins on Saturday, June 3rd at 9:30am. Teams will have 8 hours to put together and decorate their playhouses at the live build-off event that day. The judging panel will be through at 5:30pm to check out the final products.

The day will see fun for the whole family. Bring the family down, grab a snack and check out the Kids’ Zone while catching the build action.

All winners will be announced on Saturday, June 10th at the “Builders’ Ball” Dinner and Auction at Nexen Field House. Team registration includes tickets to the “Builders’ Ball.” All playhouses will be up for grabs through the live auction event, with proceeds from the event supporting Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo.

Teams Wanted for Habitat Playhouse Build-Off Competition

Do you have what it takes to build the best playhouse in Wood Buffalo?  Grab 5-7 of your friends or colleagues and find out at the 1st Annual Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Build-Off & Auction.

Saturday, June 3rd will see Casman Centre Arena transformed into a construction zone as 6 teams compete for the title of “Best Playhouse in Wood Buffalo.” Starting at 9:30am, teams will have 8 hours to put together and decorate their playhouse creations at the live build-off event.

Those that don’t want to wield a hammer are welcome to come down and watch the action. Grab a snack, check out the Kids’ Zone and cheer on your favorite team. You’ll have the chance to cast your vote for the “People’s Choice” and “Kid’s Choice” awards.

The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16 (parental consent required for minors).  Teams will be selected on a first-come basis.

HFH Wood Buffalo Rebuild Kick-Off BBQ- Saturday, April 22nd

HFH Wood Buffalo is hosting a FREE BBQ to kick-off the Wildfire Recovery Rebuild projects we’ll be starting next month.

Date: Saturday, April 22nd

Time: 11:30am to 2:30pm

Place: Frank Lacroix Arena (155 Beaconwood Drive)

Our Wildfire Recovery Program helps uninsured and under-insured homeowners affordably rebuild their home lost in the wildfire.  A number of homeowner partners have been selected for the program, with planning already underway on their homes.

Join us for hot dogs and hamburgers while finding out the many different ways to get involved.  Meet our NSUUR partners, our current volunteers and our other community partners.

Key Ceremony & Celebration Dinner for 7415 Railway Avenue Build Dates Announced

HFH Wood Buffalo is gearing up to celebrate the completion of the build on Railway Avenue! The Railway Avenue build was scheduled to begin in mid-May, but was delayed due to the wildfire, evacuation and subsequent uncertainty over the future of the Waterways community. It is truly a celebration that we were able to continue building in Waterways and complete the home for our partner family within 4 months of being allowed back into the neighborhood.

To mark the occasion, we’ll be hosting a Key Ceremony on the build site, followed by a celebration dinner at the Fort McMurray Legion on Saturday, February 25th.

The Key Ceremony will see our partner family receive the keys to her newly-finished home. The ceremony is a free event and open to the general public.  The ceremony starts at 5:30 pm at 7415 Railway Avenue.

Following the Key Ceremony, we will be hosting a dinner to celebrate the completion of the build and all involved who made it possible. We’ll also be offering a sneak peak at the events and build activities we have planned for 2017.  The dinner is being held at the Legion in Waterways at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm).

Tickets to the dinner are available on Eventbrite ($50/adult & $15/youth under 12). Build volunteers receive a free ticket to the dinner. There’s still time to get your free ticket, with build dates scheduled over the next two weeks to finish up the home.
